Most children have very hopeful dreams about their future, and some are determined enough to live out their dreams as an adult.
At just 3 years old, with a carrot stick as a microphone, Sara Westbrook declared to the world, " I am going to be a singer! "
Five years later, Sara started to take voice lessons and to enter singing competitions.
While Sara was enthusiastically pursuing her singing career, her mother decided to enroll her into motivational courses at the tender age of 11. Although younger than most in her classes, Sara absorbed the information and used it to deal with some of the more challenging issues in her life such as her parents' divorce, her low self-esteem, and the death of her father.
"My mum wanted me to understand the power of choice & possibility ," says Sara. "The skills I learned helped me move through some difficult times during my teen years and today those skills continue to impact my life in a very powerful way."
Sara realized early on that she could not control the circumstances of her life or how others acted, but she could choose how she reacted to the circumstances that life laid out. " It’s not about what happens to you, it’s about who you choose to become from those circumstances. "
When Sara was 18 her dream as a singer took an interesting turn. While singing at a local mall a school principal asked her to perform for her students. Sara’s show ended up being more than just music. During thequestion and answer part of the show, the students started asking Sara general questions about her life. Then the conversation with the students evolved into questions about life issues. She answered them by sharing her learned life tools and personal experiences.
Sara soon realized that young people were hungry to learn tools to help them move through their life situations. Knowing that music is a powerful way to communicate and grab people’s attention, Sara started including a life tool in every song she wrote. She also quickly realized that young people relate best to a combination of singing and speaking.
With knowledge and experience guiding the way, Sara’s new original show format was created - UPower® Concerts 'Building Character Through Lyrics'.
The end result: a unique hybrid of singer/songwriter/motivational speaker and youth advice columnist!
Sara has inspired change in the lives of thousands who have benefitted from her openness, wisdom, sincerity, and authenticity.
